Darker My Love
March 31, 2009
I’ve been waiting to find enough images to post a gothic story or a story that’s really dark, maybe even a little morbid, but in a beautiful way. One of my favorite editorials ever is of these black and white images of Natalia Vodianova from an issue of W. I have no idea of the date or the photographer which bums me out, but and I’ve yet to come across anything so wickedly cool. I love skulls, I adore cats, and old ships remind me of Goonies and of weird pagan rituals in the sea. I also stumbled across some other amazing photos.
This room belongs to Lindy, The Marchioness of Dufferin. It is one of her rooms in Clandeboyne, her 2,000-acre estate in Northern Ireland. Look at all the weaponry sitting over the blazing fire. It’s so insane and totally regal at the same time. Check out that rug, too. I think this room would be impossible to relax in but fun to have a themed party in.
Taken from W Magazine. Reminds me of “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” by Poison. But way cooler.
W Magazine February 2009. Shot by Craig McDean. That Nina Ricci dress is short in the front and has a long train in the back. It’s perfection.
Survival of the Fittest

I’m back from Austin. It was madness. It was chaotic. It was beautiful. It was one of the best times I’ve ever had in my life. The stuff dreams are made of. I was taking street style photos for two clients, in between drinking tons of beer and watching amazing bands. The best part? A surprise appearance by Kanye West/Common/Erykah Badu at the Levi’s/Fader Magazine party. It was ridiculously fun. I felt like I was 21 again. Even 25. I survived 5 days of raging with my ladies. I might post a couple of photos soon, that is if I can muster up enough courage to show the world how scandalous my friends and I were. Ha. Now that I’m finally caught up on all my work that was awaiting me when I returned, I can get back to some blogging. I went through my inspiration folder on my desktop a little while ago and found some cool photos from one of my favorite apartments on The Selby. I think everyone and their mom has probably seen them, since The Selby is huge now. But I’m really into these, and I’m really really really into The Selby. Anyway, these were taken at the Paris apartment of Jacques Grange, the wonderfully talented French interior designer.
Look at this! It’s like raiding your grandmother’s china cabinet and scoring at a thrift store. I like how everything is color coordinated but then randomly placed. Organized chaos.
I have been obsessed with this faucet set up since I saw it. I would love to find one of these.
Fine foods and a fine Goyard wallet.
My good friend Matthew Eikelberger has a chandelier similar to this in his home. His grandmother passed it on to him. You can actually see his home and his chandelier on The Selby here.
I like old artwork that has weird scenes – anything cult-like or religious with animals and strange settings.
On Another Adventure

I am headed to Austin tomorrow to partake in some scandalous SXSW activities. Nothing bad, just some typical raging. I’ll be back next week, but in the meantime have a look at the lovely Stephanie Seymour. She is worthy of a style icon title, and I have always been drawn to her impeccable taste in clothing and her beauty that can sometimes be slightly raunchy, but in a good way. And, she was married to Axl Rose. Remember “November Rain?” Enough said. These are some images I scanned from W Mag’s December 1999 issue. Not sure who the photographer was, but I have a feeling it was Juergen Teller. It’s known that Stephanie Seymour has amassed an amazing collection of vintage designer clothing that she takes great pride in. The clothing in these photos belongs to her, and she obviously has stunning taste. I think she’s the bizness.

Let the Travels Begin

I am one lucky lady. I have three very exciting trips coming up, the first one being to Mammoth Mountain for a little R & R and some snowboarding. I’m headed off tomorrow and it will be my very first time in the snow (light flurries in NYC don’t count.) I will officially be a California girl when I return on Sunday. Farewell, my beauties. More to come…
Elegance is Refusal

The trailer for the upcoming Coco Chanel biopic, Coco Avant Chanel, has just been released. It’s entirely in French with no subtitles since it will first be released in Paris on April 22nd. I don’t understand most of what is being said in the trailer, but I can already tell that it will be an epic story. The costumes alone are worth a trip to the theater, and it looks like there is a little bit of a love story to be told with Alessandro Nivola who is completely gorgeous. I can hardly wait.
A World of Her Own

Another Magazine has launched their entire spring issue online complete with gorgeous editorials and the best ads that spring has to offer. I am particularly fond of these editorials, shot by some of my favorite up-and-coming photographers. Tierney Gearon shot this amazing spread that is sort of surreal and is set against a backdrop of nature and oversized images. I like that there seems to be a lot going on, yet the images are still very simple and quiet.
I love these BLESS sunglasses.
Lina Scheynius shot these pics of Mariacarla Boscono in one of her favorite settings: the bedroom. Mariacarla can make even the most mundane bedroom look beautiful.
Frankie Rayder is hands down one of my favorite models. I have never really obsessed over models but I am always drawn to Frankie, Stephanie Seymour, and Jamie Bochert. These photos of Frankie Rayder were taken by Malerie Marder and were inspired by the film The Hunger.
And lastly, Jamie Bochert. I love her androgynous look – she reminds me of a young Patti Smith mixed with a little bit of Liz Goldwyn, but definitely in her own element. Not your typical model beauty which I like. I am really digging this denim story, too. Denim is totally having a moment right now.
