Stroke of Nature

I’ve posted the artwork of Paule Marrot before but came across some more of her paintings on Natural Curiosities a few days ago.  Marrot was a French engraver, painter and textile artist who became known for using florals, color and patterns in her work.  She became associated with the Art Deco movement and was influenced by the Impressionist Auguste Renoir as well as Flauvist painter Raoul Duffy.  I think some of her work is a little reminiscent of Henry Darger, particularly the paintings with children.  I love the whimsicality and happiness that each of her paintings evokes, and the simplicity of each.
