I recently came across the work of Chicago-based photographer Heidi Norton and was struck by these images of carefully arranged plants mixed with splatters of paint and random objects. There’s a macabre sensibility to the styling (love the black orchid) that evokes something mystical, but there’s also an understated beauty with the simplicity of the objects that are artfully arranged complemented with just a touch of subtle color. I love how a photograph of something so simple can bring out such various moods and emotions. Isn’t that what good art should do?
I’m off to Big Sur and Monterey — be back soon!
