If you like to lurk around on the internet I highly suggest visiting the Library of Congress website.  I was browsing their prints & photographs online catalog and came across the work of Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii who was a Russian photographer and scientist (1863-1944).  He took some seriously amazing photos documenting the Russian empire between 1905 and 1915.  Photos of people, architecture, landscapes and public works are just some of the subjects in the collection of over 2,600 images.  These are a few of my favorites.
